Multinational Only Think of One Thing: REVENUE๐๐
Good afternoon, readers!๐
How are you doing today?
Imagine this: a gleaming glass skyscraper located somewhere between London, New York, and a certain tax haven we won't mention.
Inside, a thousand individuals sit in ergonomic chairs, filled with determination.
Motivational posters are adorning the walls.
There are bean bags scattered around.
And, for better or worse, there exists a Chief Happiness Officer.๐
Yet, in every single meeting, within every boardroom, behind each meticulously crafted press release touting "sustainable futures" and "prioritising people", there lies one question, and one question alone, quietly buzzing like a server farm at 3am: "How can we increase our profits?"๐ฐ
Surprising, isn't it? Truly. We are heartbroken to share this news.
Let’s be candid about what "corporate values" really signify in reality.
When a multinational corporation claims it "cares about the environment," what it truly means is: it cares enough to produce a shiny sustainability report, print it on recycled paper, fly it business class to Davos, and then return home on a private jet.๐✈️
Achieving net zero by 2050? Absolutely, my friend. By then, we’ll all be gone, problem solved!
And the workers! Oh, the workers.
Have you noticed how multinationals realised that employees have emotions just about five minutes after remote work made them hard to supervise?
Suddenly, it was all about "psychological safety," "work-life balance," and "we recognise you as a complete human being."๐ฅน
Until, of course, Q3 fell short of targets by 2%, at which point 8,000 complete human beings received a very warm, very compassionate redundancy email.
Signed by HR. On a Friday. At 4:58pm.๐๐
The truly astonishing aspect isn't that multinationals are fixated on profit.
It's the lengths they go to persuade you and perhaps themselves that they aren't.
There are entire departments devoted to maintaining this facade.
Entire agencies are employed to create language that transforms "we are maximising value from every relationship" into something that feels like a hug.๐ค
"We're not a company. We're a movement."
No company that has ever existed has truly been a movement.
Communities? Cherished. Honored.
Prominently showcased in the advertisement that airs during the World Cup.
Yet, they are quietly defunded when the community in question requests slightly improved wages.๐๐
Innovation? Treasured until it poses a threat to a lucrative legacy product.
Then it gets discreetly shelved alongside the electric car prototype from 1997 and that intern's suggestion about transparency.๐ฌ๐️
What decades of corporate theatrics have revealed is this: multinationals aren't exactly malevolent.
They are simply focused in a manner that might warrant a diagnosis.
They will recycle your coffee cup while simultaneously slashing your pension in the same quarter.
They will honour a civil rights leader by naming a conference room after them and then battle a union organiser in court.
They embody multitudes as long as all those multitudes ultimately lead back to the spreadsheet.๐
So, the next time a Fortune 500 company claims it exists to "make the world a better place," smile politely. Nod.
Then investigate who owns the carbon credits, who was laid off last autumn, and where the CEO's bonus is allocated.๐ง
The answer to all three inquiries is likely the same: not you.๐
But hey, at least the bean bags are comfortable.☕
