Bad Recruiters VS Good Recruiters🔎

Hello, fellow working pals. How are you?

Did you celebrate Labour Day?

I'd like to pinpoint the source of the recent bad social media posts against Recruiters.😈

No, I am joking; I am not that horrible... I was a Recruiter in the past, therefore I wanted to explain a few points about their defence.

But for the time being, allow me to continue my irreverent writing and reveal some of the most horrifying things they can do.

Recruiters play a vital role in linking candidates with job opportunities, but there have been legitimate complaints and terrible experiences with them.

Here are some often-cited "bad facts" or negative aspects about them.

Some Recruiters fail to adequately disclose information about the position, remuneration, or organisation, leaving prospects unprepared or misinformed.

Candidates frequently have early interactions or even interviews and then never hear back, leaving them with no closure or feedback. Ghosting!!👻

Some others pressure prospects to accept offers fast or apply for opportunities that aren't a good fit in order to fulfil quotas or earn commission; particularly in technical or specialised sectors, Recruiters may lack a thorough understanding of the profession, resulting in poor matches or miscommunication indeed.

Many candidates receive generic or irrelevant messages, indicating that they haven't thoroughly read their profile.

Should we discuss Recruitment Agencies??😶

They frequently behave like spammers, sending bulk emails or LinkedIn messages with little or zero customisation or context.

Or what about the poor candidate experience they offer?!

Slow responses, a lack of communication, and a transactional tone can all contribute to an overly stressful job hunt...

However, here are some practical guidelines for identifying a good Recruiter and protecting yourself from harmful ones:

1) A smart Recruiter will take the time to understand your professional goals, preferences, and what you're searching for, rather than simply pushing a job.

2) They're transparent and are open about:

  • Salary range
  • Interview process
  • Timeline
  • Company challenges or culture

3) They communicate regularly. Good Recruiters keep you informed, even if it's simply to say "no news yet." They do not disappear when you submit your resume.🤝

4) They Give Feedback. Whether favourable or negative, they provide important input following interviews when possible, and will advocate for you if you are a good fit.

5) They respect your time. No last-minute requests, disorganised interviews, or excessive phone calls; they are organised and considerate of your schedule.

In conclusion, while certain persons should be eliminated from the category, it's important to realise that most recruiters are merely executors.

They do not make decisions; hiring managers do.

However, it is they who bear the brunt of the abuse.😤

Almost all of them are quite busy! Assume a recruiter is working on an average of 15 to 20 roles at the same time, reviewing 200/300 applications and interviewing 10 to 20 people for each.

So the next time you have a bad candidate experience, remember that it isn't always their fault...😉
